World Culture Fair

Hi everybody,

As some of you may know, an event known as the World Culture Fair is coming up soon on Tuesday 2nd of September at Wentworth Lawns between 12pm to 2pm. The Taekwondo Club have been kindly invited by the Australian Korean Association to take part in this event by showing the students of Sydney Uni a Taekwondo demonstration! This event is planned by the University of Sydney Union and it is a part of the massive Verge Arts Festival that is happening in the beginning of September. It is compulsory for black belts and red belts to join the demonstration team and we will be rehearsing on Sundays 4:30pm to 6:00pm (right after special sparring training). Colour belts that are keen to join are most welcome to enter our demonstration team, and since this event is going to be at Wentworth lawns, it will definitely bring in BIG crowds!

See you all soon!

New Taekwondo Class Prices

This is an announcement regarding the new lesson pricing structure. Before I begin on the details I wish to let you all know that we in the club will do our best to give everybody the highest quality of training at the most affordable prices.

To begin with, those that are familiar with the old system will know about the 5 pass card. It has been unanimously decided that the 5 pass card will be removed. However, we understand that there are people out there that still have 5 pass cards, and these people will be allowed to use their cards until the end of the year or until it expires.

So, the options available from this day forward are as follows:

Semester - 2 times a week: $135
Semester - Unlimited: $175
Monthly - 2 times a week: $40
Monthly - Unlimited: $50
Casual Lesson: $8

I suspect people may wonder about the definition of “Unlimited”. Simply put, when night time classes begin shortly we will have a total of 5 classes per week, and thus individuals can purchase an “Unlimited” card
that will let them train as many times as they wish in a week.

Also, the Taekwondo Club has its own definition of a “semester”. Sydney University has a semester of just 13 weeks then followed by exams. However, we in the Taekwondo Club aim to give you more. People that purchase a semester pass can train during the whole of semester 2 (including exams), and on top of that they can train during December and January. To illustrate, an individual with a “Semester - 2 times a week” pass can train twice a week for 6 months and pay only $135! This is an incredible saving, and is much more economical than purchasing 6 monthly passes. Just for your information, these are the very competitive prices, and our prices are better when compared to other clubs (for instance UNSW TKD Club).

This should sum it up and hopefully I’ll be seeing you all at training!

Kind Regards

Here comes semester 2!

Hello everybody,

How are you all? I hope you have all made the most of your holidays, I know I haven’t. So, I wish you all a big welcome to the second semester of 2008!

Many exciting things are going to happen in the Taekwondo Club for semester 2, and a lot of novel things are currently in development. Firstly, we will be holding beginner classes from week 2, on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3pm to 4pm. These classes will be free of charge!

Regular Taekwondo classes will resume from week 1, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays (Fridays are sparring classes) from 4:00pm to 5:30pm as per usual.

For those you that have very late uni classes and cannot come to these training sessions, do not worry, because we are currently in the process of making night time classes! We understand that students studying science and engineering have late classes that go on until 5pm or even 6pm, and also there are those of you that have part-time (or even full-time) work, so we hope that these classes will benefit you greatly. They are likely to be on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30pm to 7:15pm, starting sometime in August.

Moreover, we are currently in the process of restructuring our lesson pricing fees. Nothing concrete has been decided yet, but what I can tell you now is that we will definitely provide you all with much more
affordable lesson fees, which is very enticing for a starving university student such as myself. The new prices are likely to take into effect in the beginning of August, and final details will be e-mail later on this week.

Those interested in the upcoming Australian University Games are recommended to attend the Sunday sparring training classes which will focus on technique and skills that will boost your sparring level
significantly. These will be held on August 10th, 17th, 24th and September 7th, 14th and 21st from 3pm to 5pm. There will be a meeting for AUG competitors quite soon, details of which we will e-mail you in due time.

Lastly, Grading! I’m sure any of you are keen on moving up on your belts and I am happy to tell you all that grading will be held on August the 16th (Saturday) from 1pm to 3pm. Afterwards, as per Taekwondo Club tradition, we will all celebrate with a meal out at Newtown.

I wish you all the best for your new semester, and I hope to see many of you at Taekwondo classes.
