Emails from our Jung-Ho (John) Lee about
AUG
==================May 25===============
Object: Australian University Games)
Hello TKD-ers!
As some of you are aware, the AUG (Australian University Games) are coming
up at the end of September in the Mid-Semester break of semester 2. This
will be a good opportunity to compete with people from all across
Australia and also have great fun (including some crazy late night
partying) with everbody in the USYD Taekwondo Team.
You can compete as long as you are yellow belt or above and I would
encourage ALL of you to go. I must honestly say that it is quite a lot of
fun and isn't as scary as you would imagine. Our club Vice-President
Daniel Kim went to compete in 2005 as a yellow belt with only 1 month of
Taekwondo training (and very little confidence), but he still managed to
win a gold medal!
This year the AUG is held in Melbourne and if you are interested please
reply to this e-mail. ALSO, if you are interested in competing, the club
may choose to subsidise you for your trip to AUG, but to be subsidised you
must come to our training sessions regularly and show good Taekwondo
sparring skill and spirit. We cannot say exactly how much we will
subsidise each competitor, but we will let you all know soon.
Hope you all have a good week and best of luck for your exam preparation.
Kind regards,
John Lee

Object: Details about the Australian University Games
Hello everybody, I hope you are all well and that studying for
the exams is
productive (hopefully hehe).
In this e-mail I would like to let everybody know about the financial
details of the upcoming AUGs held in Melbourne. The 1 week trip to
Melbourne will cost $555 per person, which includes competition entry fee,
accommodation for the entire week, uniform, security, etc. This does not
include airfare, but flying Jetstar to Melbourne is likely to be cheap.
Now, I'm sure that the $555 has sent a chill down peoples' spines.
Fortunately, the Taekwondo Club has decided to subsidise $150 per person
that competes in the AUG. On top of this, $100 of the $555 is a bond that
you get returned to you (provided you don't break anything) and so instead
of $555, you will actually be paying only $305! This is a really big
bargain folks.
I also want to inform you that Taekwondo competition runs for only 1 day,
and for the entire week in Melbourne you can relax, sightsee, party and so
on. On top of this, you can apply for special consideration for your
assignments and tests. I'm sure this will be very appealing to quite a few
of you.
Lastly, the club will hold AUG training classes in the second semester
during weekends. Details of these classes will be sent by e-mail once
class bookings have been confirmed with H.K. Ward gym. I highly recommend
all those interested in competing in the AUG games to come to these
trainings as it will teach you valuable sparring skills that aren't taught
much at regular classes.
Best of luck for you exam studies and I wish you all a good week,
Kind regards,
John Lee

Object: AUG Training
Hi all,
We will be holding Australian University Games Preparation classes on these
following dates: August 10th, 17th, 24th and September 7th, 14th and 21st.
There will be no AUG Preparation class on August 31st. All the above days
are Sundays and the classes will be held at the Dojo in HK Ward, from
3:00pm to 4:30pm. Master Seo will focus on refining your individual
sparring technique and also teach techniques that are not taught often
during regular classes or even Friday sparring classes.
Furthermore, the 3rd grading for the Taekwondo Club this year will be held
on the 5th of July between 1pm and 3pm.
I hope you are enjoying STUVAC and that your studying is getting along
better than mine is.
Kind regards,
John Lee
